One generally resorts to the doctor specialized in rheumatology in case of problems such as joint pain and swelling, fatigue and fever, back pain, muscle weakness, fingers changing color with cold (becoming pale or cyanotic).
What is rheumatology? It is a branch of medicine that deals with rheumatic diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system and connective tissues of the organism. Inflammatory rheumatisms (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis), micro-crystal arthritis (gout, chondrocalcinosis) and by extension many diseases with autoimmune genesis defined as connective tissue diseases (lupus, scleroderma, some vasculitis) fall into this field. These are often complex forms with multi-system involvement, so interdisciplinary collaboration with other specialists is frequent.
SERVICES OFFERED AT J|medical. Rheumatological visit. It is the medical consultation with a rheumatologist specialist who deals with the diagnosis, management, and treatment of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. During the visit, the doctor collects detailed information on the patient’s clinical history, symptoms, risk factors, and previous medical conditions, and subjects the patient to a physical examination in which they observe the state of joints, tendons, and other musculoskeletal structures. The specialist also identifies any signs of inflammation, pain, or movement limitation. Based on the results of the clinical examination (and any further diagnostic investigations), the rheumatologist can formulate a diagnosis, discuss available treatment options, and develop a personalized therapeutic plan. Diseases treated by rheumatology include pathologies such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus, spondyloarthropathies, polymyositis, Sjögren’s syndrome, and fibromyalgia and many others involving joints, muscles, bones, and connective tissues. The goal of the rheumatological visit is to provide an accurate assessment and advise targeted treatments to improve the quality of life and health of the patient suffering from rheumatic diseases.
