OTORINOLARINGOIATRIA al J|medical

OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY at J|medical Buzzing or whistling in the ears, vertigo, sore throat, deafness or sensation of clogged ear, difficulty breathing through the nose or swallowing, lowering and/or alteration of the voice, swelling in the neck area.

These are just some of the problems that push a person to turn to a specialist in otorhinolaryngology.

What is otorhinolaryngology (ENT)?

It is the discipline that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies of the ear, nose, and throat.

In particular, the modern ENT specialist uses advanced equipment to perform exams to complete the clinical visit, such as endoscopic examination for upper airway problems or an audiometric examination in case of hearing defects.

What are the main pathologies treated? – problems at the level of the ears such as tinnitus, deafness, otitis, earaches; – problems at the nasal-sinus level such as nasal respiratory obstruction, sinusitis, nasal polyposis, imperfections of the nasal pyramid, deviations of the nasal septum; – problems at the level of the oral cavity and pharynx such as chronic tonsillitis, tonsillar hypertrophy, adenoidal hypertrophy; – problems at the laryngeal level such as dysphonia, laryngitis, foreign body sensations; – problems at the level of salivary glands (parotid, submandibular, sublingual) and at the level of the thyroid gland; – oncological type pathologies such as laryngeal tumors, thyroid gland and salivary gland tumors, oral cavity tumors, and nasosinusal tumors.

What can I find at J|medical?

There is an otorhinolaryngology clinic where our experts can accompany adults and children in a diagnosis and treatment path, using the most advanced technologies.

SERVICES OFFERED AT J|medical Otorhinolaryngological visit.

It is the first meeting with the specialist useful to diagnose, exclude, or monitor the presence of pathologies affecting ears, nose, throat, and neck.

Fibroscopy.

  • It is a medical procedure that involves the use of an endoscope equipped with a camera that allows examining the upper respiratory tract (such as nose, throat, and vocal cords), to find any obstructions or airway and respiratory disorders.
  • Otorhinolaryngological visit with fibroscopy.
  • It is an otorhinolaryngological visit that has, therefore, the objective of monitoring or excluding pathologies related to ears, nose, throat, and neck and which in this case uses the fiberscope as a diagnostic tool.
  • Audiometry.
  • It is a method thanks to which it is possible to perform an evaluation of an individual’s hearing capacity.
  • During the test, sounds of different frequencies and intensities are emitted and the patient signals when they are able to hear them.
  • This helps determine the hearing threshold for each ear and identify any hearing problems.
  • Otorhinolaryngological visit with audiometry.
  • The otorhinolaryngological visit with audiometry is an otorhinolaryngological visit including audiometry, to evaluate the individual’s ability to hear sounds and recognize different frequencies.
  • It also helps diagnose hearing problems such as hearing loss, tinnitus, or other issues affecting the ear.
  • Impedance audiometry.
  • It is a type of evaluative test that studies the functionality of the middle ear (the eardrum and the three attached ossicles), allowing detection of ear disorders (such as otitis media), or to determine the presence of any alterations of the auditory pathways.
  • During the test, the impedance of the middle ear is measured in response to variations in sound pressure introduced into the ear.
  • Upper airway endoscopy. To diagnose problems such as obstructions, inflammations, or other conditions that can influence breathing and phonation, a medical procedure is used in which a flexible endoscope with a camera is used to examine structures in the upper area of the respiratory tract, such as the nose, throat, and larynx. Vestibular tests. These are a series of medical tests used to evaluate inner ear functionality and balance, detecting disorders such as vertigo, labyrinthitis, or other conditions connected to the inner ear. The tests may involve analysis of eye movements, response to specific stimuli, or observation of symptoms provoked by positional variations. Cochleovestibular exam. One of the tests for evaluating inner ear function (including hearing and balance) is the cochleovestibular exam. It is a set of tests that allow identifying hearing and balance disorders and diagnosing conditions such as vertigo, hearing loss, and other problems related to the inner ear. Cochleovestibular exams can include audiometry, balance tests, evoked vestibular response tests, and other methods to evaluate cochlear and vestibular function. Ear washing. Following a specialist evaluation in which discomfort caused by excessive accumulation of earwax or obstructed hearing is found, one can intervene with ear washing: it is a medical procedure that consists of using water (or a saline solution) to clean the outer ear and remove accumulated earwax (or any debris). Sleep monitoring adults and children (polysomnography). It is a necessary test to diagnose sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSAS) or periodic limb movement disorder during sleep. It is also useful for evaluating the overall quality of children’s sleep. Specific devices or technologies are used to collect data on sleep stages, night awakenings, and other related parameters, with the intent of establishing appropriate treatment plans for a positive impact on health and general well-being. Rhinomanometry. Regarding breathing problems and nasal obstruction or other conditions that can influence nasal airway function, rhinomanometry is used. It is a medical test that measures resistance to airflow through the nostrils and allows identifying specific treatments capable of improving the patient’s quality of life. Active anterior rhinomanometry with decongestion test. It is a procedure used to evaluate airway reactivity. During the test, resistance to airflow through the nostrils is measured (both in normal conditions and after applying a decongestant), so as to evaluate if there is an improvement in airflow after therapy application, in case of obstructions or other conditions. Fiber optic rhinoscopy. Another type of test to diagnose nasal disorders is fiber optic rhinoscopy. It is a medical procedure in which a flexible endoscope, equipped with a small camera and a light source, is used to examine the inside of the nose and nasal passages. It allows visualizing, directly, structures such as the nasal septum, in order to identify conditions that can influence respiratory function or cause symptoms such as nasal congestion or breathing difficulties.
