Ultrasound-guided injection is a method of fundamental importance for today’s trauma specialist: it allows the drugs needed to treat a condition to be placed with the highest precision and minimal invasiveness, where indicated, in the most appropriate doses and concentrations. Its proven effectiveness, superior in many sites compared with landmark-based injections, and the growing availability of portable and pocket ultrasound machines make the method both effective and within reach of every professional.

On its own, however, it is merely a technical act. The first assessment is to establish whether it is genuinely needed in the specific case, followed by planning and finally by carrying out the therapeutic act.

The course aims to provide the essential decision-making and technical grounding for ultrasound-guided injection therapy in the musculoskeletal field, and in particular in the lower limb. For this reason it starts with the different types of drugs available and the equipment required, two elements to be chosen knowingly case by case. The scans useful for each site will be shown in live presentations, with practical sessions designed to locate them effectively on different types of patient. Practical injection sessions on an animal model are also planned, to simulate the planning and execution of the therapeutic act.
