Dr. Gianluca Alunni is Director of the Complex Cardiology Unit at the Ospedale Civile ‘Edoardo Agnelli’ in Pinerolo (ASL TO3) and cardiology consultant at J|medical. Graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery and specialized with distinction in Cardiology at the University of Turin, he has been registered with the Turin Medical Association since 1997. He has over twenty-five years of clinical and managerial experience, with senior specialist roles in echocardiography and advanced cardiovascular imaging. He served as Head of the Advanced Cardiovascular Echocardiography Unit at the Città della Salute e della Scienza in Turin, where he introduced and developed innovative imaging diagnostic techniques and contributed to the training of cardiology residents in echocardiography. A pioneer in Italy in the treatment of refractory angina using ultrasound-guided shock waves, he has treated over 190 patients, contributing to the spread of this technique at a European level. He has participated in international clinical studies in oncological cardiotoxicity and cardiovascular imaging, and is certified for percutaneous valve implantation (Mitralclip, Triclip, Tendyne, CardioBand, Harpoon, Epygon). He was the lead echocardiographer in the first implantation of the Epygon mitral valve in a living patient. He has served as Regional Delegate of SIECVI and is currently a member of the SIECVI Training Committee. An accredited instructor in Advanced and Intermediate Life Support (ERC–IRC), he carries out training activities in cardiology and emergency medicine. Since 2017 he has collaborated as cardiology consultant with Juventus F.C., overseeing cardiological evaluation and monitoring of professional athletes. He promotes cardiovascular prevention initiatives for young people, including the ‘Free Runners della Salute’ project in collaboration with the Piedmont Region. In 2025 he received the Golden Lion of Venice for Professional Merit. An author and speaker at national and international level, Dr. Alunni is a recognized reference figure in Italian clinical, diagnostic, and sports cardiology.
