Course description
For some decades now ultrasound has been an essential method in the diagnosis and management of conditions across different fields of medicine. Over time it has become increasingly reliable and able to provide higher-quality information, while reducing the size and cost of equipment and procedures.
In the muscle-tendon and joint field, ultrasound is undoubtedly a very valuable aid, both diagnostic and therapeutic: as well as monitoring the onset of complications, it can guide injection procedures and sometimes minor surgery. It is an application that nonetheless conceals many pitfalls, with a high percentage of incidental findings that need to be combined with clinical and medical-history data to avoid being misinterpreted.
The Course aims to present a use of the method integrated within clinical reasoning, showing how history taking, clinical examination and point-of-care ultrasound examination can be combined to improve diagnostic and therapeutic performance in the management of the most common shoulder conditions. The lectures will be paired with hands-on practical sessions covering both clinical tests and ultrasound examination, first general and then condition-specific, presented in a schematic and focused way.

Focus on musculoskeletal and joint conditions
Who can enroll?
Medical doctors, both specialists and non-specialists.
At least basic musculoskeletal ultrasound experience is strongly recommended: familiarity with the equipment and with ultrasound technology, with the setting and with standard static scans.
What makes this ultrasound Course different?
That it is not an ultrasound course.
For each clinical picture the Course examines the features of the “typical patient”, clinical and medical-history data, a standardized protocol for objective assessment, the cornerstones of the rehabilitation pathway and the scientific basis of the various additional therapies. On top of this, the important complementary role of ultrasound, applied differently according to the specific clinical picture. The practical sessions therefore include a two-stage clinical examination as well as the ultrasound examination.
