Course Description
In musculotendinous ultrasound, the same image — identical in all its characteristics — may belong to a patient requiring surgical treatment or to another with no symptoms whatsoever. Ultrasound gives us an idea of anatomical structure, but provides limited information about function and the potential to generate pain.
Fortunately, we already have two elements capable of compensating for these limitations: medical history and clinical examination. Their integration is fundamental for properly weighing the various findings, distinguishing an incidental image from a significant therapeutic target.
Ultrasound in the service of the clinician is not, however, merely an aid to diagnosis: it also provides important information in defining certain details of the rehabilitation pathway, the timescales involved, and monitoring during the return to sport. Here too it requires dedicated interpretation: an unchanged pathological image over time can in fact be good news, rather than being identified as a therapeutic failure.
Course Objectives
Learn a standardised, reproducible, and comparable medical approach to the most common knee conditions in the physically active person, immediately applicable in the outpatient setting;
- Identify the key anamnestic and clinical features of each pathological picture and their respective differential diagnoses;
- Demonstrate the advantages and limitations of integrated ultrasound application, with a strongly practical focus aimed at identifying the structures generating symptoms;
- Highlight how the integration of anamnestic, clinical, and ultrasound data has a significant impact on therapeutic decisions and on the definition of the individualised rehabilitation plan;
- Provide practical guidance on ultrasound reporting as a complement to the clinical examination and on drafting the personalised rehabilitation pathway;
- Create an informal environment conducive to dialogue and discussion, in order to address and clarify any doubts or questions directly.

- Who Can Enrol?
Surgeons, both specialists and non-specialists.
At least a basic level of musculoskeletal ultrasound experience is strongly recommended: familiarity with the equipment and ultrasound technology, the setting, and standard static scans.
What Makes This Ultrasound Course Different?
The fact that it is not an ultrasound course.
For each pathological picture, the following are analysed: the characteristics of the “typical patient,” clinical and anamnestic data, a standardised objective assessment protocol, the cornerstones of the rehabilitation pathway, and the scientific basis for the various additional therapies. In addition to this, the important integrative role of ultrasound, with its variable application depending on the specific clinical picture. The practical sessions in fact involve a two-stage clinical examination in addition to the ultrasound examination.
