Course Description
For several decades, ultrasound has represented an indispensable method in the diagnosis and management of conditions across different fields of medicine. Over time, it has become increasingly reliable and capable of providing higher-quality information, while reducing the size and cost of equipment and procedures.
In the knee, ultrasound is undoubtedly an extremely valuable tool, both diagnostically and therapeutically: in addition to monitoring the onset of complications, it can guide infiltrative procedures or, on occasion, minor surgical interventions. It is an application that conceals many pitfalls, however, with a high percentage of incidental findings that need to be correlated with clinical and anamnestic data to avoid misinterpretation.
The aim of the Course is to present an approach to the technique that is integrated within clinical reasoning, highlighting how anamnestic data collection, clinical examination, and point-of-care ultrasound examination can be combined to enhance diagnostic and therapeutic performance in the conservative management of knee conditions. Practical sessions will be paired with the formal lectures, comprising both clinical tests and ultrasound examinations — first general, then condition-specific — presented in a structured and focused manner.

Who Can Enrol?
Surgeons, both specialists and non-specialists.
At least a basic level of musculoskeletal ultrasound experience is strongly recommended: familiarity with the equipment and ultrasound technology, the setting, and standard static scans.
What Makes This Ultrasound Course Different?
The fact that it is not an ultrasound course.
For each pathological picture, the following are analysed: the characteristics of the “typical patient,” clinical and anamnestic data, a standardised objective assessment protocol, the cornerstones of the rehabilitation pathway, and the scientific basis for the various additional therapies. In addition to this, the important integrative role of ultrasound, with its variable application depending on the specific clinical picture. The practical sessions in fact involve a two-stage clinical examination in addition to the ultrasound examination.
