DERMOCHIRURGIA al J|medical

The skin can be considered the largest organ of the human body. Its functions are numerous, just as the conditions that may affect it are varied. When needed, it is advisable to rely on a specialist—the dermatologist—who can recommend either conservative or surgical treatment.

What is dermosurgery?

Dermosurgery is a branch of surgery that focuses on the treatment of dermatological conditions through surgical procedures. This specialty includes all interventions performed to remove skin lesions, growths, skin tumors, and other dermatological pathologies.

When is dermosurgery indicated? Dermosurgery is performed following a dermatological evaluation, which involves the anatomical, physiological, and pathological assessment of the skin and its appendages (hair, nails, sweat glands, and sebaceous glands). What are the causes of dermatological diseases? They can be varied and of different nature. For example, they may be the manifestation of a systemic internal disorder; they may be of allergic origin (such as urticaria or eczema); infectious; inflammatory; or immune-related (such as lupus, scleroderma, etc.). Of particular importance is oncologic dermatology, which focuses on the prevention and treatment of skin cancers (melanomas, epithelial tumors), including the monitoring and possible treatment of skin moles and precancerous lesions.
